My Process
My pastel paintings often begin on Uart sanded paper with charcoal and pencil sketches adding hard pastels to create value and colors that I later wash with alcohol to create a toned underpainting. I then build layer by layer, glazing with soft pastels to optically blend colors.
Some marks remain true to the observed forms and colors, grounding the pieces in reality. Others are bold and expressive, designed to spark the viewer’s imagination and draw them deeper into the scene.
